The Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne

Exploring the Queen Victoria Market and a trip to Sweden – Travel log no. 52

The plan of the day was to explore the Victoria Queen Market of Melbourne. Since the market is only open in the morning this time of the season I intended to go around noon.

Down in the lobby I met up with some friends who also wanted to join me. Like always the group dynamic is not as smooth as going alone, so it took another 1 1/2 hours longer than actually planned to leave the hostel.

At the market we only had about an hour left to explore it. I was astonished by the size of it. The whole market grounds could fit a football stadium easily. It is organized in different areas for groceries and other goods.

A glimpse into a market hall for all kinds of goods, probably mainly with Chinese Origin.

Merchant’s would shout out special deals of the day and tried to sell as much as possible so close to the end. We sampled a couple of food products and decided what we wanted to eat for lunch.

The Swedes really wanted to go to Ikea to pay one of their biggest companies back home a visit. After 30 min of tram drive we got there and enjoyed the good Swedish meatballs. For them it was like coming home and even I felt a little the same way. Probably because I spend so much time of my life at Ikea or at least lived with their furniture.

Back at the hostel I was so tired from the previous nights that I just fell asleep. Today we will try to watch a live football game and then I already have to prepare to say good bye to the city since I am planning on traveling over the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide tomorrow.
