A day of surf and Hawaiian culture

Surfing on Waikiki Beach and watching traditional Hula dance – Travel log no. 39

My day started pretty slow. I organized some things booked a flight to Maui and relaxed at the hostel.

I rented a surf board at the hostel and surfed a little bit on Waikiki Beach. I definitely have to practice more but it was already great fun. Especially watching other surfers doing stunts like headstands on their boards.

After sun set I watched a traditional Hula show. It was really impressive the show is opened by a priest using a mussel as a horn.

The dance itself was even better. It is like a sign language, visualizing the content of the song they are dancing too.

Afterwards my buddy Juseph and I went out for a couple of drinks. It was super fun to check out the nightlife in Waikiki. But the long night should have a dramatic impact on our hike up the Staircase to Heaven – Haiku the next day.
