Snorkeling Hanauma Bay and climbing up Koko Trail

Snorkeling in another crater and climbing up a roller-coaster. – Travel log no. 46

I got up this morning in shock after reading that my flight to Melbourne got canceled. After an hour of phone calls I was able to get a flight to Sydney via Qantas though.

In the afternoon I traveled to the Hanauma Bay for some snorkeling. I really got into this sport on the island.

Hanauma Bay, O'ahu
Hanauma bay from atop. Another volcano crater. This time the water was shallow but foggy. But it was possible to swim close within the schools of fish.

Even though the water was cloudy I saw some rare and cool fish. I even swam right within a school of relatively big fish.

Afterwards I did the Koko Trail to see the sunset. Again you climb up over an old railway to an old military station on top.

Koko Trailhead, O'ahu
The railway gets pretty steep. Climbing up there is not only fun but also a good work out.

On the way up there I made friends with some really cool people. Seeing the sunset over the mountains was just amazing.

Maco gave us a ride home on the bed of the truck. On the way we stopped by for some malasadas of Leonard’s Bakery.

I had a drink with my friends at the hostel and passed out pretty early.

It is a weird feeling to finally leave the USA. I will miss this country. But I am excited to discover a new continent tomorrow.

Australia here I come.
