First day of exploring Melbourne

Checking out the coast from Brighton Beach to the Pier – Travel log no. 48

I got up around 8am and had a good hostel breakfast. After making some friends we went out to check out Brighton Beach.

Brighton Beach, Melbourne
Brighton Beach with it’s famous beach houses and Melbourne downtown on the horizon.
Beach Boxes, Melbourne
The beach boxes are bath houses painted with different colors.

It feels like every second person you meet is German. Kind of weird when you originally came to explore a different culture but everybody is from your home country.

Afterwards we had some Australian Burgers and explored the city a little bit more. The title picture is shot from the Middle Brighton Pier.

Sunset, Melbourne
The sunset put the city in a beautiful yellow light. This picture is showing the boats in the marina.

So far I can say Melbourne is a cool modern city. But I cannot really find big differences to cities I have seen back in America. In addition to that you hardly see any real Australians at least not in the spots I have been so far. I expected to see some white sharks and poisonous wildlife, but I couldn’t even find a kangaroo yet.

Probably I will have to make it into the outback or go straight to Asia to experience some cultural differences.
