McLaren Vale one of Australias biggest Wine Regions

About Wine and making friends in unexpected places – Travel log no. 67

Around noon we finally arrived in McLaren Vale to meet up with one of Florian’s friends called Alex. He had worked in the valley on the past weeks on a wine yard. His news were not as good as we hoped for.

Most of the grape picking was over. We arrived at the end of the season.

Nevertheless we got together and shared some stories over a lunch of beans and rice.

Later that day we stopped by a supermarket to resupply for another night of camping. At the cashier we started a conversation with an older couple.

Hearing that we are backpackers and just arrived in the Vale they invited us dine with them that night.

We had a great night with a lot of stories and good wine from the area. With us were also two other German backpackers.

Dinner, McLaren Vale
Having Dinner at Sharyn and Wolf’s place.

Sharyn and Wolf were great host and allowed us to stay with them for the next two days.

They are real role models. I had so many cool and mind broadening conversations with the two of them. I hope when I get older I will remain young wits and also host people from all over the world.

What better way is out there too learn more about culture and life abroad. Not in the end bringing together people from all over the world.

The next day we had an extensive breakfast and tested Australian specialties like Vegemite with good coffee.

Around noon we drove around to ask for jobs. But all the information we received were the same. Grape picking season was just finished and for Olive picking we were one month too early.

We will drive up to Adelaide now and see what the city has to offer before we will travel on.
