Wild camping on lake Powell

Checking out native sites and the Horseshoe Bend on the way to Page – Travel log no. 24

After an intensive breakfast at Denny’s we drove up North. On the way we stopped by the Wupakti sites. Old Native American buildings from around 1100 CA.

Wupakti, Arizona — Within one of the old buildings, some of them are still in mint condition. The “Sacred Mountains” on the horizon still have snowy tips.

Around 4 pm we made it to Page on lake Powell and went to Walmart to buy camping equipment. Afterwards we drove off to the famous Horseshoe Bend for the sunset. There I took the following pictures:

After the sunset we had some good Mexican food at EL Tapatio. Like the night before we now had to find our way home in the middle of the night. This time though we hadn’t figured out the location of our home yet. The plan was to go wild camping. So we would camp somewhere on a unassigned camping area.

Since it was so dark though it was really hard to find a good spot. We came by a camping area on lake Powell where we actually stayed over night. The registration was already closed. So we ended up wild camping on an official camping ground. At least a partial success.

The sunrise at least was just gorgeous as you can see in the title picture.

We left around 7 am to not getting arrested because of violating property law. Today we aiming on checking out Antelope Canyon, the wave and camping in Zion.
