Fishing and Alligator Watching on Lake Okeechobee

Getting up early to go out to Lake O on the way to Tampa  – Travel log no. 14

After 4 hours sleep we got up at 5 am to drive out to Lake Okeechobee. Everybody was still tired especially because of the previous short night on Key West. In addition to that we discovered that all the boating companies on the Lake were booked out. We still decided to drive down there. That was a good decision because we were still able to get a boat.

It was pretty windy out on the lake but nevertheless beautiful. On small island you could watch all kind of exotic birds. In addition to that it was just quiet and calming compared to Miami. Eric comes out here from time to time to fish, so that’s what we did.

Alligator charging for the fishing boat, poor fellas. Can you see it?

We also saw some alligators, like you can see on the picture above. But they were super shy. So every time we approached them they would just dive down.

At noon we brought back the boat and had alligator tail for lunch. It actually tastes like tough chicken meat. Then the time to say good bye came up. It was a weird feeling to leave everybody behind, even though we just met. We had a great time and I hope I will see everybody again in this life time.

After I had a little power nap in my car I drove off to Tampa. I came along orange plantations and the smell in the air was just indescribable.  Finally in Tampa I unfortunately missed out on the sunset on Sister key. But no matter were you are, sunsets in Tampa are gorgeous!

Sister Key, Beach Number 1 of America – the best. Unfortunately I had to pee thats why the photo didn’t come out.

Finally I met up with my host Paul from Czech. We had dinner and a good Budweiser (the actual one) and I fell asleep super exhausted.
