The highway to Hana

A scenic drive with epic views, beautiful falls and rough shores. – Travel log no. 43

We got up early in the morning to take the drive to Hana. We took our first stop at the Twin Falls and did a little hike through the creek.

We should grew bored of falls by the end of the trip. The biggest falls though were still ahead. We discovered some more in a bamboo forest along the way.

We also came over a rough but really beautiful Lava Beach and had Auntie Sandy’s Banana bread.

The next stop we took was Wainapanapa State Park. Hard to pronounce but definitely famous for it’s black sand beach and lava tubes.

The contrast of dark and green was just beautiful. By the time we made it to Hana it was already 6 pm. We had a little snack and checked out the secret 7 pools for the sunset.

We really underestimated the time it takes to take the drive you can only go slow because of the traffic and there is so much to see along the road.

My favorite part of the Highway to Hana was actually the road after Hana. Plants were blooming and it looked really tropical and magical.

I drove the way back to the hostel. We drove the whole loop and the drive back was a little challenge. It was only a single dirt road right off the ocean. The rails were broken off in many places but it was beautiful non the less.

Tomorrow we are planning to have a casual day. I am looking forward to relaxing in the sun.
