Biltmore Park and the Blue Ridge Mountains
Riding the Blue Ridge Parkway – Travel log no. 7
After a short night of sleep my host took me out to the Biltmore park. It is a huge property designed by the Frederick Law Olmsted, the same guy who also designed the Central Park in New York City. The previous owners the Biltmore’s were pioneers in the railway industry. You can see how much money they made by the size of their “house” and the landscaping of the property. It was nice to check out the different plants and flowers even though most of them were not blooming yet.
Afterwards I drove off south to check out the Blue Ridge Parkway. It’s a scenic drive through the Blue Ridge or Smoky Mountains. I was pretty lucky because the parkway drive just opened again, which is pretty early for a season start. The landscape and mountains were really impressive. See for yourself on the picture below:
Along the road I came over a beautiful water fall the Looking Glas Waterfall which you can see as a title picture. Unfortunately it started to rain, so I drove back downtown and worked out. That night we came together with some of John’s friends and we had good food and laughter. Today the weather is much better, so I am excited to take the Blue Ridge Parkway up north.
