From ocean deep to sky high – Haleakalā

Snorkeling on volcanic beaches and sunsets in the clouds . – Travel log no. 42

In the morning Oli and I got up early and made some more friends during breakfast. We met Emy and Veronica from San Francisco and Arselan from Toronto. Together we drove off to snorkel on the Black Rock Beach close to Lahaina.

The jungle on the way to the beach was just gorgeous.

The Black Rock Beach with it’s amazing coral reef.

My second snorkeling experience was way better than the first one on O’ahu. First of all I figured how to use the equipment properly. Secondly the colors of the reef and fish were just amazing.

Afterwards we drove a little bit further North to check out a blow hole.

Watching Nakalele Blow Hole shooting masses of water was quite entertaining.

We had good seafood and made our way up to the top of the volcano crater.

The ride was long and we were worried that we wouldn’t make it in time or that the sun would be hidden by the clouds.

But what we found on top of the mountain was just the most beautiful scene in a while.

Can’t wait to drive out to Hana tomorrow!
