Riding through the Smoky’s on the way to High Point
Facing Ice Rain and Sleet on the Blue Ridge Parkway – Travel log no. 8
The day started with sunshine which seemed promising, but it should turn out differently. After saying farewell to my host I went to work out in the morning. This time I was riding the Blue Ridge Parkway from South to North to see the Grandfather mountain.
At first the weather was stable, but the higher I got the stronger the wind blew. One hour from Asheville away I took the title picture. It already looks like rain but it wasn’t actually raining yet. At one point the road was even blocked so I had to take a D-tour to get back to the parkway. When I finally made it to the Rough Ridge hiking path at the grandfather mountain. It started to storm. Ice rain started to fall from the sky while I had a little snack in my car.
Although it was raining I got out off my car and started to walk the hiking path since I already made it out there. On the top of the mountain though after 20 min the wind would directly face the path, so I decided to turn and drive off to High Point to meet up with Jessica.
The way to High Point was even worse it started to thunder and the cars would drive really slow. I finally made it to High Point at 7pm and met up with Jess again after 2 weeks. We had great BBQ at Carter Brothers an old style diner and Frozen Yogurt afterwards. You know that you finally made it to the South if people address you with “y’all”.
Today I am going to drive down to Charleston and Savannah. It’s sad to already leave but the weather is getting better now. I can’t wait to finally drive top down!

Hi Scott,
Thank you, I was actually thinking of your story when riding through the Smoky’s, some Gas station definitely look like it would be better running out of gas than stopping bye. Haha
