Passing through Litchfield on the way to Darwin

About beautiful wild pools and big waterfalls – Travel log no. 74

After saying farewell to the girls in the morning we hit the road again.

We had our first stop at a gas station in the design of a space craft.

Gas Station, Outback — Apparently Aliens were sighted here in the 1960s. True or not at least a gas station with some diversity.

When we were about to head on we noticed that the engine wasn’t running as smooth anymore. We added some oil and drove on more cautious. The outback is definitely not the best place for an engine breakdown.

We came by the Devils Marbles a nice rock formation along the way.

Unfortunately we didn’t stopped because we were afraid the engine could break down.

After the second day of traveling the countryside suddenly started to change.

Forest, Northern Outback — The nature became greener and greener. Here a view of the road with forest like nature.

We checked out the Bitter Springs and Thermal Pools in Mataranka. Those are natural pools in the middle of the jungle.

Bitter Springs, Australia — Bitter Springs a natural stream with a lot of fish which can be discovered while swimming.

Thermal Pools, Mataranka — The Thermal Pools offer a nice refreshment in the middle of the jungle.

Later that day we checked out Edith Falls. A beautiful waterfall with natural pools and a good hike. By now the climate had changed and it became more humid and warm. Swimming in those pools was super refreshing.

Last but not least we stopped in Litchfield. A beautiful park with a lot of pools to refresh.

Florence Falls, Litchfield park — Florence Falls is a twin fall with a beautiful natural pool.

Florence Falls, Northern Territory — Swimming in the pool below the falls is not only refreshing but also great fun.

Termite Mounds, Litchfield — The park also contains thousands of Termite mounds.

Termites, Australia — Even though it seems uninhabited it is by far not.

After another long 1500km we made it to Darwin.

What a fun day. I’d like to hang out at Litchfield for a few days.
