Paradisiacal beaches and good BBQ on the way to New Orleans

Swimming in the gulf and exploring New Orleans  – Travel log no. 16

I got up pretty early that morning and had breakfast with my host and her son. Of course we had lemon butter and vegemite since she is from Australia. After saying good bye I went to Pensacola Beach for a swim. The weather and the beach was gorgeous and the water was refreshing.

On the way to New Orleans I had a little break with BBQ in Mobile. Mobile is the second oldest city in America. The BBQ was the most authentic I had so far. The place “Brick Pit” was pretty cool too. Everybody is allowed to write something on the wall. You can imagine how it looks like after 25 year.

Finally in New Orleans, I met up with my host Charles in the French quarter. He showed me around the city and I was able to take some nice picture with the setting sun. The title picture shows the famous St. Louis Cathedral. Unfortunately we came to late to the sunset spot, but I still got a nice picture of the Mississippi.

At night we went to check out some original New Orleans style architecture. On the picture below you will find one of these from the rabbit perspective.

For dinner we went to Neyow’s Caf’e. The grilled oysters were the best food I ever ate. At least that’s how it felt last night. But the rest of the food and the service was not worth mentioning. I will come back, but just for the Oysters and soaking up the culture of an African-American owned restaurant. Check out Oysters on Charles Instagram.

Unfortunately after all this food I was too tired to actually go out partying. So I just stayed in and chatted with Charles. But the Frenchman Street is still on the bucket list for next time. It’s apparently the new Bourbon Street. Hipper and less touristic.

Today I am going to drive out to Texas. Super excited to see some real Americans. Stay tuned!
